WHO WE ARE

Nia Avila, LCMHC
She | Her | Hers
Nia Avila is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who believes that healing and transformation happen within relationships and community. In the therapeutic space she creates, clients gain insight about themselves, heal relational wounds, and rediscover the power and skills buried under layers of trauma, pain, and hopelessness. Nia brings warmth, empathy, humor, and a casual approach to help clients feel comfortable and connected enough to take on the work of deep therapeutic exploration. Therapy with Nia often feels like having a curious, compassionate, and nonjudgmental companion as you explore the parts of yourself that feel scared, lonely, or hurt.

Nia’s therapeutic perspective is deeply informed by her lived experience as a fat, Black/Latina queer woman. She is committed to providing a safe, affirming space for BIPOC, queer/trans/gender-nonconforming individuals, neurodivergent people, people in larger bodies, and other marginalized communities. In her work, she honors the realities of life’s hardships while helping clients discover new ways to create joy, beauty, purpose, and connection.

Nia holds a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University. Outside of work, she enjoys making silly TikToks, knitting scarves, reading, watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta, practicing yoga, and exploring cozy coffee shops.
