WHO WE ARE

Jocie Sweeney, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
She | Her | Hers
Dr. Jocie Sweeney is a Licensed Psychologist and has been working in the mental health field for over ten years. She received her PhD in Clinical Health Psychology from UNC Charlotte and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Georgia Southern University Counseling Center specializing in military issues; LGBQ, trans, and gender-diverse affirming therapy, and group therapy. During her internship, she served as a Group Therapy Coordinator and Military Liaison leading a number of groups to treat anxiety, depression, trauma, and coping skills.
Jocie's affiliations include the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, the Mecklenburg Psychological Association, Charlotte Trans Health, and the North Carolina Psychological Association.
Jocie is known for her genuineness and humor which assist in fostering a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients. Through these strong and trusting relationships, she strives to assist her clients with developing increased awareness and a true motivation to overcome their challenges in order to improve the quality of their life. She firmly believes that the most difficult steps in therapy are scheduling and attending the initial appointment. For this reason, she aims to reward her clients’ courage by collaboratively working with them to reach their desired goals.

Gender Affirming Letters with Jocie
-
Jocie does not charge at all for letter sessions.
-
Jocie is training another clinician (Kate Hoyle) in gender-affirming letter sessions so she will be present for the appointment (via video) with your permission.
-
If you are looking for a letter for gender-affirming hormone treatment (GAHT), please know that most physicians listed on Charlotte Trans Health do not require a letter.
-
If you are looking for a letter for top surgery, please know that a few physicians in Charlotte also use the Informed Consent Model, but most insurance companies require a letter.
-
If you are selecting a physician for gender-affirming surgery (GS) or GAHT who requires a letter, please note that Jocie will need to see you a maximum of two times for the letter and am usually able to get everything accomplished in one session.
-
If you have already received another letter for GS/GAHT, please either send it to Jocie prior or bring it to the session if possible.
-
Jocie is happy to update/edit the letter within a 6-month time frame without a second visit.
-
If you need updates/edits after 6 months, Jocie will need to meet for a brief follow-up to discuss any updates she may need to document in the letter (also free).
-
If this works for you, please schedule here.
-
If not, feel free to schedule with Tatim Lace, LCSW or see Charlotte Trans Health for additional referral
